AS400 data - mail merge with Word document

On the desktop, right mouse click, choose New, File transfer:

 

 

 

Click Next.

 

The system name should appear here. Click Next.

 

 

This is the library name and file where the employee master information is (name, address, etc.).  Click next.

 

 

Save the information in a file.  Click Next.

 

 

Where the file will be stored on the PC.  Be sure and use the .xls extension.  This will be important later.  Click next.

 

 

Click Next.

 

 

Click Finish.

 

 

Click Details by the PC File option.

 

 

Be sure to use a  BIFF (MS Excel file type – the largest number available – in the above example, BIFF8).

 

 

Click OK.

 

 

Click File, Properties.

 

 

Check “Convert CCSID. Click OK.

 

 

Click “Transfer data from AS400”

 

 

 

 

Click OK.  This is how many records were transferred down to the PC.

 

Go view the file in excel.

 

Now, close this and do a normal mail merge in word.
